BTS’ memorable 9-year journey before announcing the suspension of group activities


After 9 years of operation, BTS has overcome many difficulties to achieve many remarkable achievements, marking an important milestone for the development of Kpop.

2013 – BTS debut

Global group BTS was formed in 2010 in Korea and officially debuted in 2013 by Big Hit Entertainment. During the operation period, the group remained fixed with 7 members: Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook.

BTS started out as a hip hop group and evolved into a wider variety of genres. The group’s music focuses on social issues, healing young souls and solving school age problems.

On June 12, 2013, BTS released their first album called “2 Cool 4 Skool” with the title song “No More Dream” but failed on the charts. The music products released at this time did not bring positive results for the group.

At the end of 2013, BTS was recognized as New Artist of the Year at the 5th Melon Music Awards, the 28th Golden Disc Awards, and the 23rd Seoul Music Awards.

2014 – First tour

On February 12, 2014, BTS “entered” fans with the title song “Boy In Luv”, which helped BTS gradually appear on Korean music shows and hold their first fan meeting in the city. Seoul street.

In July, BTS came to the US for the first time with a free concert in West Hollywood and appeared at the KCON music event in Los Angeles.

2017 – Entering Billboard Hot 100

On May 21, 2017, BTS became the first K-pop act to be nominated at the Billboard Music Awards. This idol group has excellently surpassed Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande… to win the Top Social Artist award.

Also in 2017, BTS became the first Korean group to perform at the American Music Awards. By October 2017, BTS’ song “DNA” rose to number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100. This was the highest position of a K-pop group up to that time.

2020 – Nominated for a Grammy

The song “Black Swan” paved the way for the group’s fourth studio album, “Map of the Soul: 7”, which set a record with 4.02 million pre-orders.

At the end of August, BTS just released the first English single in their career called Dynamite. Dynamite’s success surpassed imagination with a number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

Notably, on November 24, BTS was nominated for the first time in the category of Best Pop Performance by a Duo/Group at the 63rd Grammy Awards with the song “Dynamite”.

2021 – Year of records

In May 2021, BTS returned with the song “Butter” and received positive reviews from the public. Butter stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for 10 weeks. Besides, Butter also helped BTS put their name on the Guinness Book of World Records with 5 records.

In a busy year, the group won many prestigious awards such as “Favorite Pop Duo/Group”, “Favorite Pop Song” and “Artist of the Year” at the AMAs 2021. At the same time, BTS also won the People’s Choice Awards 2021. and went on to be nominated for a Grammy.

September 14, 2021 BTS received the certificate of appointment of Special Envoy of the President at the Blue House

On September 21, 2021, BTS will attend the 76th United Nations General Assembly held in New York as Special Envoy. This is the first time BTS has made its mission in this capacity to send a message of comfort and hope to young people around the world. They are also the first K-pop group – non-politicians to be appointed to this honorary role.

2022 – Meet the US president at the White House

On May 31, 7 BTS members were present at the White House and met with US President Joe Biden. Here, BTS gave a speech on ending hate crimes and discrimination against Asians.

On June 10, BTS officially returned with the MV “Yet To Come” and the 9th anniversary album “Proof”. The new song quickly gained a lot of success in both domestic and international markets.

In the latest sharing, BTS members will focus on individual activities instead of group activities as before.
